Auxiliaries & Volunteers

Auxiliaries

The contribution and efforts of the Auxiliary Members of both the Seymour District Memorial Hospital and Barrabill House Residents and Carers Group is greatly appreciated.

The Ladies Auxiliary meet each second Wednesday of the month in the Hospital Board Room.

Various fundraising activities are conducted throughout the year. The Auxiliary raises the impressive amount of approximately $8000 per annum. Over the past three years, these donations have made it possible to purchase a patient trolley for the Day Procedure Unit, a BiPAP machine (a vital piece of equipment which is used for emergency breathing problems) and an ECG (electrocardiogram) machine for use in Accident & Emergency and Acute Ward.

New members are always welcome. Donations of craft items are also appreciated and can be left at the Hospital’s main reception.

The Barrabill House Residents & Carer’s Group meets each third Monday of the month at Barrabill House.  A new weighing chair has recently been purchased with funds raised and it is proposed to furnish one of the sitting rooms of the new Barrabill House.

Volunteers

The contribution of the volunteers is greatly appreciated by the residents and clients of our community services.  Volunteers work under the supervision and direction of Hospital staff.

In Barrabill House, volunteers assist residents with group activities and outings or on a one-to-one basis and often become a ‘special friend’ to a resident who may not have any family living close by.  At the Planned Activities Group, volunteers assist clients with group or individual activities or assist with outings.

The Palliative Care volunteers complete a structured education program and work under the supervision and direction of the Palliative Care Team. Regular support meetings are held with guest speakers and ongoing education and support sessions included.
