How do I obtain a place at Barrabill House?

To access residential aged care you must first undergo an assessment by an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT). As part of their assessment, the ACAT will help you and your carer to work out what kind of care will best meet your needs.
Following the ACAT assessment, you need to complete the Residential Aged Care Application Form and submit it to Seymour Health.

You will also need to apply to Centrelink for an asset assessment.  To book an assessment by an ACAT, please contact the Commonwealth Carelink Centre on 1800 052 222 for contact details for your local ACAT, or the Aged Care Information Line on 1800 500 853.

How long is the waiting list?

As soon as we receive your completed application form, you will be placed on a waiting list for a place in Barrabill House.  When a place becomes available, it will be allocated based on a number of relevant factors, including waiting time and health status.

How much will it cost?

The fees for residential aged care are set by the Commonwealth Government. Details of fees and charges can be obtained at the Australian Government Department of Health and Aging website on http://www.health.gov.au/

History of Barrabill House

The official opening of the Hospital Nursing Home Extension took place on 17 February 1980, by Dr G. Travaks, Chairman, Health Commission of Victoria. At this time, the home was renamed "Barrabill House". "Barrabill" is a local Aboriginal word meaning 'a river flows nearby'.

In 1987/1988, the Health Department approved funding for a ten bed extension. The official opening of this extension was performed by Sir Edward (Weary) Dunlop on 28th September 1990. A commemorative plaque is located on the northern wall.

The current facility was officially opened by The Hon. Fran Bailey and Minister Gavin Jennings in September 2006.
