Since the mid 1990s, the School Dental Service (SDS) has moved from a mobile service to a fixed clinic infrastructure.
Many SDS clinics are now co-located with community dental clinics in community health centres.
Seymour SDS clinic is located at the Gribbles Pathology building, adjacent to the main hospital in Bretonneux Street Seymour.
School based examinations and treatment no longer occurs at all schools.

Who can use the School Dental Service?
- All primary school children in grades prep to six
- All children enrolled in Special or Special Development Schools
- Children in years seven and eight whose parents hold a current concession or health care card
What type of care is offered?
- Examinations (check-ups)
- Treatment, including:
Dental sealants to prevent decay Application of fluoride Fillings X-rays Extractions
Who provides the treatment?
- All general treatment is proived by qualified dental therapists
- More complex care is performed by dentists
How do I enrol my child in the School Dental Service?
Enrolment details are yet to be finalised with the integration into Seymour Health. Please contact Hospital reception on 5793 6100 in the interim.
How often can I use the School Dental Clinic?
Once enrolled, your child will receive a notice of offer every 12 or 24 months, according to their identified risk status.
- Children at low-risk of dental disease will be contacted every 24 months
- Children with a high risk of dental disease will be contacted every 12 months
What does it cost?
- The service is free for children of parents with a valid pensioner concession or health care card
- Non cardholders pay a fee of $28.00 per child (maximum of $112 per family) per course of care, which
includes a check up and all general treatment
- The service is free for all children enrolled in Special or Special Development Schools
- Payment can be made by credit card, cheque or money order made payable to DHSV (cash is not accepted)
