BABY'S FIRST CRY
HEARD BACK AT SEYMOUR HOSPITAL

After intense collaboration, planning and implementation, we were thrilled to resume birthing services from Monday 4 February 2008.

After a pregnant pause, there was great excitement with the birth of  baby Mahni on Friday 8 February.

Proud parents, Narelle and Drew are pictured at right with midwives Glenda and Lisa.

With our fulltime birthing service now operational, mothers are encouraged to book in early to receive the best antenatal care.

We are also now offering a lactation consultant who facilitatie a day-stay program for mother and baby to ease any troubles with breastfeeding.

NURSE PRACTITIONER ENDORSEMENT

It took Registered Nurse Debra Bourne over 18 months of dedication and commitment to achieve her enhanced endorsement of Nurse Practitioner.  Nurse  Practitioners are an exciting and innovative model introduced and supported by the Nurses Board of Victoria to assist with the increasing workloads in Emergency Departments throughout Victoria.

Nurse practitioners (NP) are registered nurses with advanced educational preparation and experience who are authorised to practice in an expanded nursing role.  In addition to further education and advanced clinical practice, the Nurse Practitioner's role includes aspects of care that may have traditionally been performed by other health professionals such as prescribing medicines and ordering and interpreting investigations and tests.

Debra provides the majority of care to patients in the Emergency Department Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm.  Through support of the hospital, local GPs, and in particular, Dr Eliot Jarman, Debra has been able to further develop her skills, knowledge and experience to pass her endorsement.

Debra's success is a wonderful personal and professional achievement and the hospital is extremely proud of her commitment and passion in her pursuit of excellence.
