Social Support Group

The Social Support Group provides a social activities program for people aged over 65 and younger people with disabilities.  Social Support Groups aim to meet the needs and interests of older people in a manner that promotes participation and enjoyment.  We are located in the Community Services building at the rear of the hospital.

We aim to

  • provide programs that encourage participation in a variety of activities that cater for individual interests and capabilities
  • Encourage friendships and connectedness within our community
  • meet the needs of people with dementia in a safe and secure environment

We provide

  • support with personal care requirements
  • respite and support to carers

Activities Include:

  • Day outings
  • Guest speakers
  • Music
  • Bingo
  • Cards
  • Exercise and physical games
  • Celebration days (Melbourne Cup, Australia Day etc)

Hours of Operation

Our program is centre based with a monthly outing.  The centre is open Monday to Friday.


Our fee is charged according to the Department of Human Services Home & Community Care (HACC) guidelines for each person enrolled in the program.  The fee is discussed at the initial assessment appointment.  Morning and afternoon tea are provided at no extra cost.


The Centre has a small bus with wheelchair access and a hoist. The bus is driven by Centre staff to assist you.  Those who can are encouraged to make their own arrangements. For more information, contact us, or call the Centre directly on 03 5793 6120.
